Quick local film news flash: Lowell’s Pollard Memorial Library will feature a wonderful Civil War Film Series in conjunction with their exhibit Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation, which reexamines President Lincoln’s efforts toward the abolition of slavery during the Civil War. Organized by the Huntington Library and the Gilder Lehman Institute of American History in cooperation with the American Library Association, Forever Free invites guests to explore Lincoln’s change of mind, and heart, while also exploring the historic personalities that shaped our country during this tumultuous time. The display will run from May 15 to June 25 at the library and is made possible through major grants from Mass Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
In addition to other great Forever Free events, the following Civil War Film Series will be presented at the library’s ground floor Community Room, one of our personal favorite screening venues in Lowell:
