Please join us for a riveting film screened in collaboration with Lowell’s Irish Cultural Committee, St. Patrick Church, and our friends at Lowell Beer Works. On August 15, 1998, a group who referred to themselves as the “Real IRA,” detonated a bomb that took the lives of 31 people in the Northern Ireland town of Omagh. In the aftermath of the explosion, blue-collar mechanic Michael Gallager (played brilliantly by Gerald McSorley) was forever changed by the loss of his 21-year old son. Determined not to let the same tragedy happen again, Gallagher sets off on a personal mission to become the official spokesperson for the victim’s families, challenging the government’s official stand on terrorism while providing a voice for the grief-stricken families of the innocent victims killed in the blast. This award-winning BBC film was passionately directed by Pete Travis in partnership with writer/producer Paul Greengrass (Bloody Sunday, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum).
