We love indie film, there’s no doubt about it. We do, however, flex our talons and occasionally let a great Hollywood action film creep into our movie calendar. On Saturday, April 23, our indulgent sides get a treat when the Pollard Memorial Library presents a grand block-buster AND a New England favorite – The Perfect Storm. Relive the gut-wrenching true story of the Andrea Gail and her heroic crew who fought one of the greatest storms in history.
Here’s the official announcement from our good friend, film supporter, and Pollard Library’s Community Planning Librarian, Sean Thibodeau:
“To gear up for the Pollard Memorial Foundation’s Author Night with Linda Greenlaw on April 28, we’re showing the movie that first brought Ms. Greenlaw to the public’s attention. Set in 1991, The Perfect Storm depicts the plight of one sword-fishing ship, the ill-fated Andrea Gail, and her crew during the greatest storm in modern history. While friends and family on shore could only worry and hope to rescue them, a brave crew, fight nature and struggled for survival against hurricane force winds and hundred foot waves.”
The cast of heavy-hitters includes George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Diane Lane, John C. Reilly, PLUS this year’s Academy Award-nominee John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone). Don’t forget to keep a lookout for a cameo part by everyone’s favorite girl-next-door turned textile artist, Karen Allen. All give pretty fabulous performances – we dare you to have a dry eye by the credits! Come out and support the Pollard and take in one of the best — and most critically acclaimed — disaster films of the past decade.
