It’s all the buzz in Lowell right now — the “Crown Prince of Tremé”, Glen David Andrews, will be performing LIVE at Lowell’s Western Avenue Studios on Saturday, April 2! This exciting program was entirely organized by our dear friend Andy Smith, lover of New Orleans jazz and all around music aficionado. To enhance the already amazing music program, he invited the LFC to screen the equally amazing documentary Faubourg Tremé: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans, which documents the history and musical rise of one of the oldest African-American communities in America, which is also responsible for some of the nation’s most dynamic jazz music. It just so happens that the Research Director for the film was UMass Lowell History Professor Caryn Cossé Bell. Because of this fortunate fact, Ms. Bell will be in attendance at the screening to share her insight on the making of the film and all she learned during the process.

The official title of the program is “From Basin Street to Western Avenue: Celebrating the Roots of Jazz and Preserving Its Future” — we hope it’s apparent that we’re thrilled to be a part of this amazing day dedicated to the great City of New Orleans and to generating support for Lowell’s musical future. A big thanks to Andy for allowing us to partner with him for such a fantastic event!
