A couple of months ago, we blogged our enthusiasm about the New England-made independent feature film Joy and the Apocalypse screening at Red River Theatres in Concord, NH. We braved the crappy weather that Saturday and made the trek to Concord to see the premiere and were so impressed that we contacted the filmmakers to find out if they’d be interested in bringing their clever film to Lowell. Luckily, co-director Daniel Black responded quickly, and we’re delighted to announce that Joy and the Apocalypse will be screening at the Boott Mills Museum Events Center in Lowell on Sunday, May 1 at 2 PM. Even better, it will be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Daniel Black and Ryan Convery.

Made for an almost-unheard-of budget of less than $10,000, Joy & the Apocalypse exudes the same cinematic quality of some of the best indie films around, and it’s got a clever script to boot. Christopher Murphy, Film and TV Development Executive at MyTV New England, recognized the talent immediately, featuring Joy and the Apocalypse in the network’s recently-launched “Independent Film Series,” where it even enjoyed a Saturday night premiere on local stations. As one of our additional Special Guests, Chris will discuss this unique collaboration and the benefits MyTV has brought to the project.

If you’ve been following our updates on the 4th Annual Lowell Film Festival, May 1 falls at the tail end of that event, which means we’ll have four days in a row of quality cinema in the Mill City. We hope to see you on Film Festival Sunday for this Indie Film Matinee that celebrates the great filmmaking talent we have in New England!
