Danny Boyle’s National Theatre Production of “Frankenstein” comes to Showcase Cinemas in Lowell, June 6 & 7

In Spring 2011, Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) brought a mesmerizing stage production of Frankenstein to U.K.’s National Theatre in collaboration with writer Nick Dear who provided the stage adaptation. The production featured Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in alternating roles as The Creature and Victor Frankenstein and had its last performance on May 2. Luckily, U.K.’s National Theatre Live broadcast the play live to cinema audiences as well, bringing the Boyle-Dear vision to movie-goers and stage-theater lovers via the silver screen.

Here in the U.S., Fathom Events does the very same thing, and we’ve actually enjoyed some pretty stellar screenings of live theater as well as special movie engagements, albeit at the local Showcase Cinema. If Frankenstein is your cuppa tea, be sure to nab your tickets for the Fathom Events cinematic presentation of the “monster hit” play at Lowell’s Showcase Cinema this Wednesday and Thursday, June 6 & 7. If you’re a real theater die-hard, you can get tickets for both Wednesday and Thursday and see Cumberbatch and Miller play alternating lead roles, just as they did in the original stage production.

Yeah, every now and then the local Showcase actually does something pretty amazing, and this is one of those times. Give us a wink-and-a-nod when you see us there this Wednesday!
