Some people follow their dreams. Others steal them.
The Lowell Film Collaborative is thrilled to present a FREE screening of the Jeunet & Caro visual masterpiece The City of Lost Children as part of opening weekend of the 7-month Dickens in Lowell event series! Critically revered as a dark, futuristic cinematic homage to Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” Jeunet & Caro’s sweeping tale is also upheld as one of the most compelling examples of Steampunk-inspired celluloid creations, mesmerizing audiences with its stunning set and costume designs, wondrous gadgetry, a haunting film score by the great Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks), and artistic renderings of a timeless world beyond our imagination.
ABOUT THE FILM
A gutsy little girl named Miette (Judith Vittet) and a sentimental strongman named One (Ron Perlman) join hearts and hands to save a small boy from a madman’s master plan to steal his dreams and those of other orphan children. Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) & Marc Caro, the phenomenal French filmmaking duo who brought us Delicatessen, deliver a fantastically twisted fairy tale filled with spectacular stunts, mind-bending visuals, and unforgettable characters which include a brain held captive, a cluster of clones, conniving Siamese twins, and larger-than-life henchmen.
We’re proud to present The City of Lost Children in its original French language with English subtitles. Please note that it is recommended for mature audiences.
