Please join the Lowell Film Collaborative for a very special film screening of the Lawrence-based film Scenes from a Parish on Tuesday, May 26. We are delighted to welcome director James Rutenbeck for the event, who is very excited that we are hosting a screening of his film in the area.
Coming to us fresh off several screenings at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston International Film Festival, and Boston College, Scenes from a Parish follows the work of Reverend Paul O’Brien, a young, energetic, Harvard-graduate who presides over Saint Patrick Parish in Lawrence, Mass. Astounded by the label that Lawrence is the poorest city in the Commonwealth (and the 23rd poorest in the country), Rev. O’Brien’s parishioners struggle to keep their lives in balance and learn to accept the incredible diversity that exists at Saint Patrick’s. Filmed over the course of four years, the film follows the lives of nine parishioners who are working hard to escape difficult pasts and who face even more difficult decisions in their futures. There are many beautiful rays of hope in the film, which we will let you discover for yourselves.
