Join our friends at the Pollard Library in Lowell for their monthly Independent Film Night! In the snarky French-Canadian comedy 1981, director Ricardo Trogi gives us the inside scoop on what it’s like to be an 11-year old boy thrust in the middle of a new school and quirky family. A self-proclaimed “cheeky, coming-of-age tale,” 1981’s fun use of the first-person narration brings great humor to the audience (think Ralphie in A Christmas Story).
Lowell indie and foreign film buffs can now rejoice because of the library’s licensing membership with Film Movement, which allows the Pollard to bring you great foreign/independent films every month. Though Pollard screenings are free, Film Movement also features a membership component for both individuals and institutions that delivers a different award-winning independent/foreign film to your home every month for a reasonable fee. These are incredible, acclaimed films that for the most part rarely make it past film festivals and into the theaters due to their smaller budgets and foreign flare. If you’re a filmie, a Film Movement membership is definitely worth looking into. Or of course, you can watch these great films with other local movie folks every month at the Pollard Library (thanks, Pollard!)
